How and when you repayThe main help is a zero-interest loan with no monthly payments — you repay it only when you sell, transfer, stop living in the home, or refinance and take cash out. The matching grant on top does not have to be repaid.
Who can apply
About you
- For full-time District government employees in good standing with at least one year of service (the service requirement is waived for police, corrections and fire, EMTs, paramedics, and public or charter school teachers).
- Must be a first-time buyer in DC — no ownership of a principal residence in DC in the past 3 years.
- First responders and educators can receive an additional loan (up to $10,000) and larger matching grants (up to $15,000).
The home
- The home must be a single-family house, condo, or co-op in DC used as your primary residence.

Conditions
